چکیده

Under mild assumptions about the interarrival distribution, we derive a modi ed version of the Birnbaum-Saunders distribution, which we call the tBISA, as an approximation for the true distribution of count data. The free parameters of the tBISA are the rst two moments of the underlying interarrival distribution. We show that the density for the sum of tBISA variables is available in closed form. This density is determined using the tBISA's moment generating function, which we introduce to the literature. The tBISA's moment generating function additionally reveals a new mixture interpretation that is based on the inverse Gaussian and gamma distributions. We then show that the tBISA can t count data better than the distributions commonly used to model demand in economics and business. In numerical experiments and empirical applications, we demonstrate that modeling demand with the tBISA can lead to better economic decisions.

Numerical solution of general nonlinear Fredholm-Volterra integral equations using Chebyshev ‎approximation

A numerical method for solving nonlinear Fredholm-Volterra integral equations of general type is presented. This method is based on replacement of unknown function by truncated series of well known Chebyshev expansion of functions. The quadrature formulas which we use to calculate integral terms have been imated by Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). This is a grate advantage of this method which has...

Calculation of the Induced Charge Distribution on the Surface of a Metallic Nanoparticle Due to an Oscillating Dipole Using Discrete Dipole Approximation method

In this paper, the interaction between an oscillating dipole moment and a Silver nanoparticle has been studied. Our calculations are based on Mie scattering theory and discrete dipole approximation(DDA) method. At first, the resonance frequency due to excitingthe localized surface plasmons has been obtained using Mie scattering theory and then by exciting a dipole moment in theclose proximity of...

Bayesian paradigm for analysing count data in longitudina studies using Poisson-generalized log-gamma model

In analyzing longitudinal data with counted responses, normal distribution is usually used for distribution of the random efffects. However, in some applications random effects may not be normally distributed. Misspecification of this distribution may cause reduction of efficiency of estimators. In this paper, a generalized log-gamma distribution is used for the random effects which includes th...

A New Approximation for the Null Distribution of the Likelihood Ratio Test Statistics for k Outliers in a Normal Sample

Usually when performing a statistical test or estimation procedure, we assume the data are all observations of i.i.d. random variables, often from a normal distribution. Sometimes, however, we notice in a sample one or more observations that stand out from the crowd. These observation(s) are commonly called outlier(s). Outlier tests are more formal procedures which have been developed for detec...

Combination of Approximation and Simulation Approaches for Distribution Functions in Stochastic Networks

This paper deals with the fundamental problem of estimating the distribution function (df) of the duration of the longest path in the stochastic activity network such as PERT network. First a technique is introduced to reduce variance in Conditional Monte Carlo Sampling (CMCS). Second, based on this technique a new procedure is developed for CMCS. Third, a combined approach of simulation and ap...

Parameter Estimation in Spatial Generalized Linear Mixed Models with Skew Gaussian Random Effects using Laplace Approximation

Spatial generalized linear mixed models are used commonly for modelling non-Gaussian discrete spatial responses. We present an algorithm for parameter estimation of the models using Laplace approximation of likelihood function. In these models, the spatial correlation structure of data is carried out by random effects or latent variables. In most spatial analysis, it is assumed that rando...
